About Precision Video Service

Precision Video Service was founded by Dave Pinney in 1983, repairing VCR’s, TV’s, radios, tape recorders, record players, 2-way radios, and other consumer electronics.

The 1990’s brought new opportunities to work in broadcast and professional television equipment and production systems. I learned from the best, sharpening my skills working in this field for 24 years. During this time I performed maintenance and repair for a wide variety of video equipment including monitors, TBC’s, switchers, test equipment, and many thousands of analog and digital video tape machines. Precision Video Service took a back seat for many of these years while I was working full time and raising a family.

Today there are fewer and fewer experienced engineers doing this type of work. Most have retired or moved on to other careers. In 2012 I moved on to a rewarding career in sports television which continues today.

In 2015 I restarted operations for Precision Video Service, just as a small part-time side business at my home. I decided to do this because I was missing the hands-on nature of this work breathing new life into these old machines. Today my business primarily supports archivists and their organizations, as well as broadcasters, businesses, and private individuals who care about preservation their valuable historical video assets while they still can. Earning a little extra income along the way doesn’t hurt either!

While my primary work is repairing old VCR’s and VTR’s, Precision Video Service also offers video tape digitizing services to transfer video tapes to digital files. If you just have a few tapes (or a huge mountain of tapes) that need to be transferred to digital for editing or preservation, and you want it done right by an engineer that knows how to get the best results, I can take care of this for you! Thank you for your time, and please feel free to contact me if you need any help with your video tape machines or your video tapes.
